The survey, conducted by the Ponemon Institute and reported on the BBC website., http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7902989.stm provides further evidence that employee’s are acting out their fear’s and anxieties in this down economy.

I maintain my position that whether in a down economy, or a boom, employers need to be vigilant about the insider threat – your employees can inflict massive damage as they have inside knowledge. , and in some cases they can bring the whole business down.

Whilst it is difficult to stop staff stealing data, just as it’s difficult to stop them stealing say a pencil, you can watch for the warning signs as documented in our white paper, And adopt a policy of “trust no one” and then start putting systems and procedures in place to monitor employees.

Back in the day we built moats around our castles, the drawbridge only went down to trusted visitors and armed guards monitored the movement of people in and out whilst the bridge was down. The modern equivalent protection for our buildings these days uses locks, keys and camera’s - we need to rethink the way we do IT security today, and look to the way buildings and other physical assets are protected to get inspiration.

Lanxoma has taken the first step in providing a moat, drawbridge and camera recording solution around your IT systems, now you can begin trusting again !!
